   Kathamo puja is performed at Belur Math on Janmashtami day. (Kathomo is the Bengali name for the bamboo structure on which the clay idol of Sri Durga is built.)

VARALAKSHMI VRATAM

Today is Varalakshmi Vratam festival.May Mother Sri Lakshmi Bless us all on the occasion of Varalakshmi Vratam.

Varalakshmi Vratam is an important Puja that is dedicated to Goddess Varalakshmi. Vara-lakshmi is one who grants boons (Varam). It is performed by married woman of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra for the well being of all the family members, especially husband.

RATHA YATRA:2014

Puri Jaganath Ratha

Tomorrow is Ratha Yatra Festival at Puri. The festival is Lord Jagannath's annual visit to Gundicha mata's temple via aunt's home (Mausi Maa Temple which is near Balagandi Chaka in Puri).

On the day of Ratha Yatra,  Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Subhadra are taken out in a procession to Gundicha Temple. They remain there for 9 days. Then they return to the Main temple. The return journey is known as Bahuda Jatra

SNANA YATRA: 2014

May Lord Jagannath bless us all with devotion.

This year Snana Yatra is celebrated on Friday, 13th June, the Purnima (full moon day) of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha.

It is believed that Lord Jagannath will clean the sins of devotees, who gets vision of the Lord on this day. Hundreds of thousands of devotees visit the Jagannath temple on this occasion.
